How to Make Your Family Business More Professional

Most family businesses “become more professional” by the third generation, but skilled, solid employees may decide that they’d rather work somewhere that’s more structured, fair, and professional in the meantime. How can the business keep the benefits of a family operation while accelerating the professionalization that will be attractive to both family and non-family members?

Make it meaningful to work at your company. When the family's vision, values, and goals are well communicated  and accompanied by a clear operating or business philosophy, employees feel they understand why they're there and where they fit in the grand scheme.

Fostering business growth in Roxbury - The Bay State Banner

Monday afternoon, five entrepreneurs and bank officials were typing away on laptop computers at tables, desks and benches at the new Reevx Labs coworking space on Washington Street near the Dudley Station bus terminal.

Behind a glass wall, another group was in a meeting, while a woman worked in one of two phonebooth-sized workstations that provide a quiet place for a private call.

Shared workspaces aren't new, but they are for Berkshire Bank, the Boston-based bank with branches across Massachusetts, in Connecticut, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

Want To Launch A Business While Still In School?

The history of entrepreneurship is filled with student startups, but they're not as easy to run as many people think. Launching a business while going to high school classes and playing varsity basketball like Eli Zied, 17, or studying accounting like his brother Spencer, a junior at the University of Miami, can require an air-traffic controller's mindset to pull it off.

The name Habits 365 springs from the brand's mission to encourage positive habits. The founders aim to encourage wearers to stick with the daily activities that will help them reach their goals.

Xilinx cuts 300 jobs as San Jose chipmaker sees weak 5G business

Xilinx shares plunged more than 10% Wednesday after the San Jose-based semiconductor company said it will cut about 300 jobs following a disappointing quarterly earnings report.

Xilinx said it will cut 7% of its staff as it deals with what Chief Executive Victor Peng called “greater than expected weakness in our wired and wireless business” due to slowing sales of chips used in 5G wireless infrastructure deployments. Xilinx announced the job cuts late Tuesday at the same time it delivered fiscal third-quarter results that fell short of expectations.
