Justices Deny Review of ‘Gap-Time’ Pay Fight in Overtime Suit

The US Supreme Court declined to clarify whether the Fair Labor Standards Act allows a worker to sue their employer for allegedly underpaying straight-time hours and using overtime to make up the difference.

The justices on Monday rejected a petition by Cleveland County Emergency Medical Services and Cleveland County, N.C.

Allentown City Council putting $100,000 toward a forensic audit of overtime pay.

Allentown City Council is putting $100,000 toward a forensic audit that would examine how the city pays overtime to its employees. But at least one city official thinks the move is "wildly premature."

The city has already paid 111% of the amount of money it budgeted toward employee overtime pay in 2022, according to an October financial report.

IATSE Escalates VFX Workers' Push to Unionize with New Survey

"VFX is integral to almost every film and television production made today. Yet the workers who make VFX possible are among the only film and TV workers not represented by a union today," IATSE organizer and VFX worker Mark Patch said in an official statement.

IATSE communications director Jonas Loeb explained that the union's involvement in this push is intended to drive higher participation than ever before, such that "the more in the VFX community that participate, the more representative the study will be."
