UK legal and accounting firms swell Treasury coffers with £20bn in taxes

The UK legal and accounting sectors contributed £20.5bn ($28bn) in tax last year, up 5.4% from 2018, new data revealed.

A report from TheCityUK said that during the past decade, the growth of these sectors has consistently outpaced the rest of the economy's growth and the tax contributed by them made up 2.8% of total UK tax receipts.

The Harmonized Tax Law amends the 2007 Customs and Excise Tax Law to authorize the government to change the types of goods subject to excise tax, which were previously limited to tobacco products, alcoholic drinks and ethyl alcohol.

Certainly, the government will most likely add to the list and the rate, because excise tax accounts for more than 45 percent of total tax revenue and the government is strapped for resources to cope with the fiscal deficit, which by law must be cut down from an estimated 5 percent of gross

In most states, taxpayers who are granted a federal extension to file automatically receive an equivalent extension to file their state income tax return.

Your state tax return deadline was likely the same as the federal return deadline: May 17. (Last year, most states extended their deadlines to July 15 to match the federal government's delayed deadline.
