The 11th Circuit began its analysis by reviewing the fluctuating workweek method. The Fair Labor Standards Act requires employers to pay nonexempt employees time and a half their regular rate for all hours worked beyond 40.
Using this approach, employers "need only pay for overtime hours at a rate of one-half times the employee's regular rate — not at one and one-half times," the court said.

A federal judge has approved a $1.75 million settlement to resolve claims by servers at Jose Pepper's that they were denied minimum wage and overtime, and were required to work before clocking in.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Angel Teeter had previously rejected the settlement, saying she didn't have enough information to evaluate whether the settlement adequately compensated the servers.

Federal investigators have ordered the owner of a poultry processing business in La Puente to pay $200,000 in back wages and damages to 103 employees who sometimes worked 60 to 70 hours a week but were denied overtime pay.

A Visalia-based drywall company was fined $7.2 million for stealing wages from 724 workers, according to the California Labor Commissioner's Office.
According to state investigators, NGC Construction, Inc. paid workers a fixed amount per project known as piece-rate.

Democrats — and select Republicans — voiced their support for a bipartisan bill that would boost wildland firefighter pay and reclassify their job titles as firefighters during a House subcommittee hearing on Wednesday.

Commissioners discuss county's response to health district split
In their first public meeting since the Corpus Christi City Council voted to break off from the city-county health district, Nueces County commissioners began to navigate the ramifications of the move.
