COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio Senate committee is reviewing legislation that would shield employers from overtime pay requirements for hourly employees in certain situations.
The legislation, introduced by Republican Senators Andrew Brenner and Bob Peterson, would repeal overtime requirements for hours employees spend:
Current law requires employers to pay 1.5 times an employee's wage for hours worked more than 40 per week. Senate Bill 57 would allow employers to use a stingier accounting method for when the bonus pay kicks in.

Honolulu to audit police overtime pay after violations | West Hawaii Today
HONOLULU — The Honolulu City Council has announced a plan to audit the city police department's overtime costs after recent violations and a report that indicated substantial increases in overtime pay.
A recent Police Commission report found the department's overtime costs almost doubled over a four-year period ending in 2019, Hawaii News Now reported Wednesday.
The police commission estimated that the department spent $38 million in overtime pay over the four-year time frame.

KALAMAZOO, MI – Zeigler Auto Group paid $85,111 in back pay to 214 employees for failing to make sure they earned minimum wage and were paid for overtime.
Commission-based sales consultants at 13 of the dealership group's 30 locations in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois did not always make minimum wage, the U.S. Department of Labor said in a news release. A total of $85,111 for minimum wage and overtime was repaid to 214 employees, the release said.
The employees were paid on commission. But if they did not make enough commission to reach minimum wage, Zeigler was required to make up the difference, the release said.

Zeigler Auto Group, which has a presence in three states with headquarters in Kalamazoo, has been ordered to pay 214 employees a total of $85,111 in minimum wages and overtime back wages following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Federal investigators determined that the auto dealer failed to ensure its commission-based sales consultants earned a $7.25 federal minimum wage at 13 Michigan, Indiana and Illinois locations.
Investigators noted violations involving 80 sales consultants specifically at 10 locations. In Michigan, they are Zeigler of Kalamazoo, Zeigler Motorsports, Zeigler of Grandville and Zeigler of Plainwell. In Indiana, Zeigler Ford of Elkhart. In Illinois, Hoffman Estates Mercedes Benz, Hoffman Estates Infiniti, Zeigler Nissan of Gurnee, Zeigler of North Riverside and Zeigler of Lincolnwood.
