German Business Outlook Worsens Due to Virus, Supply Squeeze
German businesses unexpectedly became more pessimistic about the economic outlook as the country continues to battle a stubbornly high rate of coronavirus infections and supply constraints weigh on the recovery.
The Ifo institute's gauge of expectations for the next six months fell to 99.5 in April from 100.3. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted a gain. At the same time, an assessment of current conditions improved.
While Germany has significantly sped up its vaccination campaign, the infection rate is high and businesses are facing severe curbs on activity. Nighttime curfews have been in place since Saturday across vast parts of the country, and many shops were forced shut after the government tightened restrictions.
'Ale Trail' launches digital passport, brings business to breweries -
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 News) -- The Charlottesville Ale Trail launched a digital passport, and it's bringing back business to local breweries.
The Ale Trail is a group of six breweries all within walking distance of the Downtown Mall. Breweries and the Charlottesville Office of Economic Development started the trail and implemented a "paper passport" about three years ago.
Using the paper passport, people can collect a stamp for each brewery they visit along the pedestrian beer trail. When they collect all stamps over a period of time, they can get a prize.

Survey Shows Business Economists More Optimistic About US Growth – NBC Los Angeles
The accelerated rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, along with the Biden administration's rescue aid policies, have brightened the outlook for the U.S. economy as it extends its recovery from the pandemic recession.
That is the view of a majority of business economists that emerges from a survey being released Monday by the National Association for Business Economics. The results, based on responses from 97 NABE members earlier this month, found that two-thirds say the vaccines and the administration's policies have increased their optimism.

Tate & Lyle, one of the world's biggest producers of sweeteners such as high fructose corn syrup, said earlier this year it expects modestly higher annual profit, partly due to demand for its food and beverage solutions in North America.
The company said discussions with potential new partners for the Primary Products business are at an early stage. The food and beverage solutions unit makes texturants, stabilisers and low-calorie sweeteners.
Texas film industry not big business - but could it be? | wfaa.com
DALLAS — It wasn't an Oscars-sanctioned award, but if there were a category for "Best Portrayal of Texas by New Mexico," the winner might very well be "News of the World ."
If you have seen the Oscar-nominated movie featuring Tom Hanks (which I think is definitely worth a watch), you know the storyline plays out in a different era in Texas. But particularly in some of the scenes that are supposed to represent a journey from North Texas down to South Central Texas, it is clear we are somewhere else entirely (like the beautiful state of New Mexico).
