Town meeting voters raise registrar's pay, decrease budget overall - By Fran Gonzalez - Belfast -

Swanville — Residents stood outside the Swanville Town Office or listened in cars as the warrant was discussed at the annual town meeting March 13. Because of the pandemic, no town meeting was held in 2020, and the town operated using the 2019 budget numbers.

Residents had the option of tuning in on their radios to follow along at Saturday's meeting or gathering around the moderator and voting with colored cards. Technology did not help the blustery wind that kicked up occasionally, making for a chilly and brief meeting that lasted just over an hour.

$3 million budget adjustment for Augusta wastewater manager goes for OK

A budget amendment for a wastewater plant operator and the creation of an Augusta EMS subcommittee go for commission approval Tuesday.

ESG Operations, Inc., a Macon-based firm that has operated Augusta's Messerly Wastewater Treatment Plant for more than a decade, is increasing its annual fee and adding $2.5 million to its annual contract for additional work for Augusta Utilities, bringing its annual contract amount to almost $9 million.

Last week, the city Engineering Services Committee failed to pass a motion to approve the change, with Commissioner Catherine Smith McKnight voting no and Commissioner Ben Hasan out, so it moves forward without recommendation to the full commission Tuesday.
