Overtime, hazard pay boost Westmoreland County employee wages in 2020 | TribLIVE.com

Nearly a quarter of Westmoreland County employees were forced to sit home without a paycheck for several months last year while furloughed during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. Other staffers, though, more than doubled their annual salaries though hazard pay and overtime.

A Tribune-Review analysis of overtime and pandemic pay earned by the county’s 1,800 workers found that more than $11 million in added personnel costs were paid out. Certain staff earned time-and-a-half wages during 2020 through pandemic and overtime pay.

MTA overtime spending down in 2020 at $1.1 billion

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – MTA overtime spending dropped slightly in 2020, but its workers are still getting astronomical overtime pay.

Among the highest-paid MTA workers in 2020 was a police detective sergeant who earned just over $397,000, according to the agency.

But that wasn’t as much as the just over $411,000 made by former MTA COO Mario Peloquin, who resigned last month.

MTA Chairman Pat Foye called it progress that MTA overtime spending dropped by $122 million in 2020.

Normal asks railroad to reimburse town for overtime pay in derailment cleanup

NORMAL (HOI) - The Town of Normal is hoping local taxpayers will not have to foot the bill for the cost of cleaning up February's train derailment.

The town government would like Union Pacific Railroad to reimburse taxpayers for about $20,000 in overtime pay that public employees accumulated during the cleanup, said town spokesperson Cathy Oloffson.

She said the town has reached out to Union Pacific, but has not billed the railroad for the expense.

Overtime brings in over $200K+ for some MTA workers - New York Daily News

Overtime helped put five MTA police officers on the transit agency's list of top-10 earners in 2020, officials reported Friday at the same time they crowed about their success driving down overtime costs.

Robert Rau, an MTA Police detective-sergeant, was the second-highest paid employee at the agency, earning $397,160 in 2020, the agency said. His pay was $14,809 less than the $411,969 earned by former MTA chief operating officer Mario Peloquin, who resigned in February.

Frontier Communications Sued for FLSA Violations for Failure to Pay Overtime Wages, Provide

The plaintiff alleged that she and other similarly situated customer service analysts or customer service representatives were not fully compensated by the defendants in violation of the FLSA, various labor codes, and various IWC Wage Order numbers. Employees Working In Slaughterhouse Settle FLSA Overtime Case: When Will Employers Learn?

It is amazing to me that employers still do not understand that there exists an inviolate obligation on their parts to pay proper overtime.  It is not proper for an employer to believe that if it treats its employees “well,” or if its business is “green” and it tries to do the right thing by the environment, this means that it cannot pay overtime.

A class of thirty-four (34) workers will receive payments, which will range between $191-16,000.  Their payouts depend on how long they worked at the employer, which is typical for class action settlements, which often come down to the parties agreeing on a formula for payouts, rather than an individualized study of each employee’s situation.  The lawyers for the class will receive $127,500 in fees, more than their clients will receive in wages.
