Vanderburgh Co. Health Dept. request overtime pay for staff working extra hours

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - As COVID-19 vaccination efforts continue in Vanderburgh County, a number of health department employees are working extra hours to accommodate the need.

Administrator Joe Gries went in front of the Vanderburgh County Council on Wednesday to ask for overtime pay approval.

Lynn Herr with the Vanderburgh County Health Department says about 25% of adults in the county have now had their first shot.

The majority of their employees are working more than their 40 hours per week, especially in the vaccine clinics. These grant dollars come from the state, but the county has to sign off on them.

IG report finds State Police overtime reform flawed - The Boston Globe

Quarterly audits of the State Police's 50 highest-paid employees, an oversight measure ordered by Governor Charlie Baker in 2018, were not effective in targeting potential overtime fraud because they "placed too much emphasis on those troopers who earned the most money for the relevant quarter as opposed to troopers who worked the most overtime hours," according to the annual report, which was issued Monday .

* * *

Many of those audited had landed on the highest-paid list because they had retired and received a large payout for unused leave, or were high-salaried employees who worked less overtime than other troopers, the report said. Last year, the State Police expanded the initiative to include weekly audits of troopers chosen at random, regardless of earnings. But the inspector general's Division of State Police Oversight found that approach was inadequate.

Restaurant to pay $600K to settle suit over wage theft | The Spokesman-Review

SEATTLE — The Willows Inn, a nationally acclaimed restaurant on Lummi Island that has been accused of underpaying its employees, has agreed to pay $600,000 to settle a class-action lawsuit over wage theft accusations.

But in the lawsuit filed in Whatcom County Superior Court in 2017, the plaintiffs' attorneys alleged that The Willows Inn had violated state labor and wage laws including the withholding of tips and overtime pay, and in some cases, that it did not pay employees at all for shifts worked.
