A second round of testimony on Monday regarding House Bill 2358 continued to be split between agriculture producers and farmworker advocates, who debated requiring farmworkers be paid overtime for work done over 40 hours per week.
Bill sponsor Rep. Andrea Salines, D-Lake Oswego proposed an amendment which phases in the overtime, beginning with anything after 50 hours per week in 2022, followed by 45 hours in 2023, and 40 hours in 2024, and then on.

CDC $11 million overtime settlement dispersed to all employees | 11alive.com
It all came down to a decision from one person, the union president. When the board disagreed with the distribution plan, members say the president relieved them of their duties.
The distributed money stems from a 2016 grievance filed by the union representing agency employees who claimed they were not properly paid.
George Roark was the first employee to raise red flags. The former emergency response specialist discovered he and 106 fellow colleagues were not paid overtime for more than five years. Roark retired in 2019 after 36 years with the CDC and the military.
Oregon Democrats' proposal would extend overtime rights to farmworkers; farmers say it would
River Point Farms workers plant onion seeds in a field near County Line Road on March 17, 2015, west of Hermiston. A House bill introduced in January would require employers to pay farmworkers overtime if they work more than 40 hours in a week, the same rights that most nonfarm workers in Oregon already enjoy.
In his decades as a farmworker, he has worked in extreme heat, heavy rain and snow. Like many other Oregon farmworkers, he didn't miss a day of work during the wildfires in September 2020, despite the air quality reaching hazardous levels.
Overtime pay for San Jose police spiked 300% — despite hiring more officers, audit shows –
Overtime pay for San Jose police officers quadrupled over the past decade, as dozens of officers each year have exceeded work limits set by the department's duty manual, a newly released city auditor’s report reveals.
The report’s findings starkly illustrate the gap between San Jose Police Department’s staffing levels and the ever-increasing workload, fueling discussions about whether officers should spend so much time responding to calls involving non-crime matters such as mental health crises and homelessness issues.

Zeigler Auto Group ordered to pay 85k in back wages
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — According to the U.S. Department of Labor an investigation revealed Zeigler Auto Group, a company headquartered in Kalamazoo, has failed to pay $85,111 in minimum wages and overtime to 214 of their employees.
"Employees paid on commission basis must earn at least the federal minimum wage per hour of work completed. If they do not, employers must make up the difference," explained Wage and Hour Division District Director Mary O'Rourke in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "Our investigation put money into the pockets of workers who were underpaid, and levels the playing field for employers who play by the rules.
Measure allowing overtime for farmworkers moves forward | The Seattle Times
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Agricultural workers in Washington state would become eligible for overtime pay under a bill moving through the Legislature in Olympia.
Somewhat surprisingly, the bill enjoys bipartisan support and even has the backing of farm employers who say it will bring a level of certainty to their labor costs. Farmworkers have been exempted from overtime pay since 1938, although some states such as California and New York have extended those protections in recent years.
