York City's budget is about to get streamlined, officials say
York City is now expecting less strenuous budget seasons, as the city council on Tuesday unanimously approved new software that is expected to streamline the city's entire budget process.
The approved resolution allowed the city to enter into a three-year contract with Silicon Valley-based OpenGov, a private software company specializing in finances. The contract would cost $58,000 for the first year and $38,000 the final two years.
OpenGov is expected to generate forecasts based on spending and revenue in real time, something the current system cannot do. It will also give residents the opportunity to see revenue and expenditure amounts at any point during the year.

Sheldon, Iowa — After no comments were heard during a public hearing at Wednesday's meeting, the Sheldon City Council approved the contracts for deed on the old Sunset Motel and 1023 Garfield Avenue properties with Kerwin and Kathy Sterler. This is the final step in the effort to redevelop both nuisance properties and the Sterler's plan to begin work on the projects soon.
A second public hearing was held on the City's Fiscal Year 20-21 budget. The only comment was a letter from Marv Van Riesen and Concerned Citizens, asking the council to hold some of the budget meetings at 7 p.m. in the evening. He noted that this would allow those who don't get off work or can't make the earlier meetings enough time to attend and participate in the process. Hearing no other comments, the budget was passed by the council.

The airline managed to squeeze a profit of nearly $54 million, but the company said it was able to do so because of lower operating costs — a result of a drop in the price of jet fuel.
Flydubai's Chief Executive Office Ghaith Al-Ghaith said the airline had concluded its own interim settlement agreement with Boeing for certain compensation in lieu of the grounding of the jets, but said details of the agreement are confidential.
"This agreement has contributed towards this year's results, but in no way can it compensate for the loss of business opportunity or market share experienced by the airline," he said in a statement, adding that discussions continue regarding the ongoing impact.
Flybe, a Regional British Airline, Stops Flying - The New York Times
Flybe, a regional carrier that had flown to some of the more underserved corners of Britain as well as holiday destinations, has ceased operations.
In a notice on its website dated Thursday, Flybe said all its flights had been grounded and that it would not be able to make other arrangements for its passengers. It said the company had been placed in administration, and it directed questions to Ernst & Young, the auditing firm.
"This is a sad day for U.K. aviation and we know that Flybe's decision to stop trading will be very distressing for all of its employees and customers," said Richard Moriarty, chief executive of Britain's Civil Aviation Authority, in a separate statement from the British regulator.
