The American Accounting Association has announced that five new members will be inducted into its Accounting Hall of Fame this August during the organization's Annual Meeting in Atlanta.
Started at Ohio State University in 1950, the Accounting Hall of Fame has inducted 101 members since its inception. Bruce Behn, past president of the AAA and current chair of the Accounting Hall of Fame Committee, noted that this year's class of inductees represents a "diverse group of accounting thought leaders from a breadth of practice and educational backgrounds." Nominees are selected by members of the Accounting Hall of Fame, the AAA and other professional accounting organizations.

Ohio auditor finds six weaknesses in Cuyahoga County accounting practices in 2018 - cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Ohio auditor identified six issues with the accounting practices of Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish's administration in 2018 that left open the possibility of financial misstatements going undetected.
The deficiencies, identified by auditors as "material weaknesses", were released Thursday in Ohio Auditor Keith Faber's annual report on county finances.
Unlike the county's 2017 audit, which found that some previously-awarded employee bonuses were "illegal", the 2018 found no instances in which the county must recover money that was improperly spent or accounted for.

Accounting for employee share-based compensation could become less complex for private companies after FASB on Wednesday endorsed the decision by the Private Company Council (PCC) to propose a practical expedient for nonpublic entities.

Bloom Energy stock rose more than 10 percent percent on Friday morning, days after the company reported an accounting error on one of its fuel cell financing options.
Shares dropped as much as 24 percent in after-hours trading on Wednesday, but recovered somewhat on Thursday.
The company, which had not disclosed a release date for year-end results, announced it would report earnings in March.
