The chief financial officer and principal accounting officer at aerospace giant Spirit AeroSystems have resigned amid an ongoing accounting probe trigged by a compliance review.

Jose Garcia, senior vice president and chief financial officer, and John Gilson, vice president, controller and principal accounting officer, each tendered their resignations, the company announced Thursday. The company has appointed Mark Suchinski as senior vice president and chief financial officer and Damon Ward as interim controller and principal accounting officer, effective Jan. 29.

Amazon's ad business is booming, and there's still room to grow

Amazon 's advertising segment was just one factor in the company's blowout fourth quarter , but the company outlined where it sees growth for the high-margin business.

Amazon's "other" category, which is mostly made up of its advertising business, generated $4.8 billion in revenue during the quarter, a 41% increase from the year-ago period. During the earnings call, the company's director of investor relations, Dave Fildes, said ad revenue as a subset had been growing at about the same rate year over year in the fourth quarter as it did in the third quarter.

"They said I was calling too much," Gilbert told KTUU during an interview from her garden-level condominium, which she's owned for decades.

Lundin Petroleum AB (Lundin Petroleum) is pleased to announce its 2020 development, appraisal, exploration and abandonment budget which totals USD 1.27 billion and represents a 30 percent increase on 2019 capital expenditure. Today, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment's (CDLE) Division of Labor Standards and Statistics (DLSS) adopted as final the Colorado Overtime and Minimum Pay Standards Order (COMPS), with the effective date of March 16, 2020. COMPS replaces the Colorado Minimum Wage Order (CMWO), which had been widely criticized for its lack of clarity.

Over a 10-month comment period, CDLE heard from more than 1,000 workers and employers. Many testified they felt the previous wage order was unclear in defining which workers are covered and what criteria make an employee exempt from the various protections in the wage order.

Pension of former State Police lieutenant suspended after overtime scandal conviction

No Days Off? Some Round-the-Clock MBTA Workers Rake in OT, Records Show – NBC Boston

As July 2019 came to a close, the top overtime earner at the MBTA began one of his busiest stretches of the month.

Electrical foreman John Devlin worked his regular daytime shift on July 31, then returned shortly before midnight to help with power problems on the Red Line, according to the transit agency's records.

Devlin worked through the night and stayed for his morning shift the next day. He picked up six more hours of overtime that day, finally heading home after 9 p.m., according to the T's records.

Police at the polling place? Commissioners say no to overtime pay - Carroll County Times

Confrontations at polling places and concerned election judges prompted Carroll County's election director to request "more of a presence" of police at polls in the 2020 elections. But the county commissioners would not approve the request because it's not included in the budget.

Carroll County employs nearly 700 election judges to operate 36 polling places, and some of those judges expressed concern for their safety during the 2018 election cycle, according to Katherine Berry, election director. She and Capt. Wonder Bread Drivers Dealt Setback in Maine Overtime Lawsuit

Flowers Foods Inc. and related companies can ask to decertify a collective action seeking overtime pay by Maine drivers who distribute Wonder Bread, Nature's Own, Tastykake, and other baked-goods brands, a federal court in the state said.

Convicted LMPD officers say stealing overtime was part of department's 'culture' | In-depth |

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two former Louisville Metro Police officers convicted of faking overtime to boost pay and retirement benefits say their actions were part of the "culture" of the department.

Roadhouse was one of the department's best officers who "succumbed to a long standing culture whereby overtime hours were often padded," his attorney said in court records.

US Treasury/IRS: Qualified Opportunity Zones Final Regulations

This article provides an overview of some of the main rules that are new, some that have changed, and those that have stayed the same.

Many of the baseline requirements and benefits have stayed the same, given that they are based in the statute rather than left to regulatory discretion.

For example, although the Treasury and the IRS received numerous requests to extend or modify the timing of the program to enable more investors to take advantage of the tax benefits, they did not do so, noting that December 31, 2026, deadline is provided by statute. This means that investors looking to invest eligible gains now may certainly do so, but such gain will be included in their income before the second basis step up (5 percent) could be applied to the investment in year seven.

Industry experts weigh in on new panel recommendations for Canadian content rules, implementing

The Broadcasting and Telecommunications Legislative Review (BTLR) Panel released its recommendations for Canada's communications industry, including imposing a sales tax equally on all media services and new Canadian content regulations.

Among the 97 recommendations, the panel said one immediate call for action is to "end the competitive disadvantage facing Canadian companies" by applying the GST/HST. 

"It is more appropriate to establish a regime that requires such online streaming services that benefit from operating in Canada to invest in Canadian programming that they believe will attract and appeal to Canadians," the report said

DAC 6 tax disclosures: final regulations published | ICAEW

31 January 2020: the final regulations for applying the EU directive commonly known as DAC 6 have been published. While HMRC amendments have been welcomed, there are still concerns about the level of reporting obligations and the lack of official guidance.

Zhang, an economist at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences - a top government think-tank - said his forecast was based on the assumption that the outbreak will peak in early to mid-February and end by the end of March.

China's growth slowed to a near 30-year low of 6 percent in the fourth quarter, and analysts have said they expect the epidemic to drag on the economy.

U.S. Economy Heads Into 2020 With Steady Growth - WSJ

The concern among investors is that efforts to slow the spread of the virus will dampen economic activity inside China and possibly elsewhere.

Coronavirus cases in China overtake SARS and impact could be 'more severe'

The number of coronavirus cases in China has already surpassed that of SARS, and the economic impact of the new virus from Wuhan could be more severe than the 2002-2003 epidemic, or at least similar, according to economists.

It took more than 6 months for the number of SARS cases to surpass 5,000 in mainland China. China had 5,327 SARS cases between Nov. 1 2002 and July 31 2003, according to the World Health Organization.

On the other hand, it's taken about a month for the number of new coronavirus cases to climb past 5,000 on Tuesday. The new virus was first officially reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan on Dec. 31.
